Our Academic Mission

Notre-Dame Hospital's Board of Directors and Senior Team recognize the unique learning opportunities our hospital has to offer as one of northern Ontario's premier healthcare facilties. Our hospital is affiliated with many academic institutions including Queen’s University and the University of Toronto.

Supporting the education of medical learners at the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing education levels is enthusiastically embraced by Notre-Dame Hospital. Our ability to provide excellent care within a patient and family-centred environment both now, and in the future, is dependent upon nurturing and mentoring current and future members of our medical staff.

We are shifting the thinking about hospital design and optimizing the use of digital processes including test results pushed out to clinicians, and patients have electronic access to their digital health records. The education of the next generation must include preparation for this paradigm shift in future health care. Our hospital is also equipped with the latest state-of¬-the-art equipment including the most advanced CT scanners and our Interventional Radiology suite.

As the academic profile of Notre-Dame continues to grow, we are finding that increasing numbers of medical students and residents are asking to spend time with us during their training. This speaks to the excellent physician teachers at Notre-Dame.

Medical Education Opportunities

Position Resident Physician
Department Medical Education
Application Deadline 6/1/2017 12:00:00 AM
Description To provide a general overview of the resident roles, responsibilities and functions while on rotation at Notre-Dame Hospital. This is meant to address issues relating to degrees of independent clinical practice, interactions with and supervision by faculty, performance of procedures and interactions with or supervision of other housestaff or medical students. It is expected that residents will demonstrate ongoing maturity during each training year and will progressively transition into the next level by the end of prior academic year. In each year of training, responsibility for patient care must increase. This increased responsibility is drawn from many different facets in the residency training process and includes clinical training and teaching responsibilities to the less experienced members of the team. The resident, in addition to regular physician duties and a responsibility to continuing education, manages the team and reports to the attending faculty physician.
